I love naps. I think they are the best part of life. Sunday afternoons, soup simmering in the kitchen, curled up under a fluffy down comforter with a warm kitty, reading a book, sipping on a cup of tea, until that one warm, drowsy moment when I just can't keep my eyelids open any more and I drift off into a sweet sleepy place....
I live with a man and boy who refuse to nap. Sleeping during the day is absurd to both of them. But to me, a nap is pure indulgence. Pure quiet and calm. The opposite of anxiety and stress and hustle. It is the space between the words. The pause between the notes of music. The place where I can stop thinking for awhile.
I find people are on one side or the other when it comes to naps. I decided this year to fully embrace the fact that I love naps. When possible I take one on Saturday AND Sunday. Call me lazy, call me Rumpelstiltskin, I don't mind. I'll just be curled up in my dreams next to a cat and a cool cup of tea.
This is how I nurture myself. This is how I slow down and honor what my body, mind & soul needs.
Some photo evidence of my obsession with naps. You'll see I'm in some great company.
