I love elephants. So much so that I have one tattooed on my body. I love the magnificence of their bodies and the deepness of their souls. The video below, with over 1.5 million views on youtube, moves me so much, mainly because of Solomon, the man who took care of Shirley and delivered her to the animal sanctuary. He loved her so much he was willing to let her go. He says "there'll be no more chains...she's free now...I don't know who was the first to put a chain on you, but I'm glad to know that I was the last to take it off. She's free at last." Ah, the sweetness of that love.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the chains that we put on ourselves. The limitations we put on ourselves just because we always have. Like the chains around the elephants at the circus, we are held back by our beliefs, by chains we can break through if only we knew our own strength.
