Mission accomplished: Another Whole30 changes everything

Let me scream from the rooftops!  Another Whole30 started and finished.  A group of 27 amazing yogis from Dragonfly Hot Yoga faced their fears, apprehensions, and sugar demons and, quite frankly, kicked them all in the ass.  Words fail me to explain the inspiration I feel from the amazing group of April Whole30 participants (so I resort to "kicked ass"....my mother will be so proud of my stellar vocabulary!)

What is the most inspirational part of this process is not the fact that people change how they eat (although that is amazing). It really moves me deeply to watch people surprise themselves with what they can accomplish when they set their minds to it and decide to put themselves first.

We are often taught in our childhoods not to be selfish, to give to others before we give to ourselves.  Taking time to take care of ourselves is often mistakenly taught to be self-indulgent, selfish, and irresponsible.  Selflessness is seen as a virtue that we should all aspire to.  However, this group of men and women have proven to me once again that self-care is the key to happiness in life.  When we take good care of our health, our mental states, how we nurture and feed ourselves, we are able to be the best versions of ourselves.  From there, we can give to others from a place of abundance and love.

If I could impart any wisdom from conducting these groups is that when you really want to change your life, YOU CAN.  You just have to make the commitment to yourself and DO IT. My yogis conquered eating whole, nutritious foods while on work trips, at Disney World and family vacations.  They brought coolers full of chopped veggies to water parks and dinner parties.  They stood in grocery store aisles and read labels.  They kept journals and scrapbooks. They conquered self-doubt.  They calmly said no when they wanted to say yes. They led by example.  They inspired those who saw how they now shine with health and possibility.  I can't even explain how happy this makes me.

These journeys become less about food to me and so much more about living a full, purposeful, healthy life.  Like my friends from Whole 9 say...it only starts with food.
